The comment about scope rings wasn't intended as criticism but more as trying to understand the arrangement. After Byron's comment, I had a think on it. The butt stock contains the buffer tube which, of course, is concentric to the bolt and thus in line with the bore. This puts it higher than standard rifles which, as mcassill notes, reduces muzzle climb and necessitates a higher ring set. So it must just come down to my perceptions, which I freely admit are slanted toward traditional bolt actions.
I suppose I should just add one to The Pile, play with it and then I'd know and quit asking inane questions.
