With the demise of the ban on sub-16" barrels...

and the new guidelines on formerly verboten firearms, I find myself fantasizing a bit... and no, nothing to do with CQB door kicking 11.5" carbines. Years ago my eyes fell upon a 15" bull barrel Winchester 1885 in 25-35 caliber in the NW Colorado Cowboys and Gunfighters Museum in Craig, CO. And it's been nibbling at the back of my brain pan ever since. There's just something appealing (to yours truly, at least) about that setup. Nice and compact. And it is a "one of one" rifle as it's the only such ever built by Winchester. Replicating it, even in a modern clone, was out due to the NFA's ban on doing so. But now, thanks to the new guidelines, the only thing holding me back is excessive lack of funds to follow up on the urge. And the more I think on it, the more I think that such a rifle built with an integral silencer would be "even cooler", if that's possible.

I picked tobacco a few summers in Connecticut back in 70 and 71 with two bothers named Andrew and Anthony Halstead. They may have been twins. They were from somewhere in Wyoming county.

When I was in college, I went to a big gun auction. It was well advertised and auction fever was in full effect. Prices were way too high for a poor college kid. It was mostly hunting guns with a few handguns near the end. I walked over to the handgun table and saw a 1911 looking auto that amongst other markings had c 11.25 mm on the slide. Doing some quick math, I figured that had to be very close to .45. Apparently nobody else did that math, or knew what it was and I ended up getting a very nice Ballestor-Molina for $100. I think my budget for the day was around $300, so I felt pretty good! I had that pistol for several years and shot it a good bit before selling it to a buddy who also wanted a .45 but couldn’t affford a ‘real’ 1911!
