BSS 20 ga. does not cock on opening.

Yesterday a good friend gave me his BSS 20 ga. to see if I thought it could be made operational. It does not cock when opened. Are there any adjustments for wear on the cocking levers? The fore arm attachment lug looks to have been weld repaired. When the fore arm is attached there is a very small gap between the receiver and the fore arm metal. The ejector hammers in the fore arm seem to be binding. Thought I would start with dismantling the fore arm, and see if the between fore arm and receiver can be eliminated. Any suggestions?

take the foregrip off and take barrel off... look on front of receiver and check the two slot/holes for each hammer cocking channel... see if you can push the cocking rods with a punch and cock the hammers... sounds like the little space you have between the foregrip and receiver is just enough to keep the cocking levers in the foregrip from pushing the cocking rods in the receiver far enough to cock the hammers.

just checked my old photos... the BSS should have two levers on the front lower part of the receiver... check to see if the are free to move and will cock the hammers when pushed down... the gap in foregrip to receiver might be keeping the foregrip from pushing the levers down far enough when you open the action.

Thank you, That is what I was thinking. I may be able to shim the forearm to tighten the gap. I am in the process of making screwdrivers to fit the thin slots in the screws. One of my pet peeves is buggered screws, I like guns I work on to look like they weren't when I am done.

How did this turn out?
