Next question on .45/70 Cowboy............

As stated, the 26" barrel is classy but really a bit too long for easy handling.

What would be the "ideal" length to shorten it to?

I have seen them as short as 16"....actually looked very nice and handy.

Thanks in advance,

Byron

.Marlin made an 18.5 " version of that rifle

davidsons had them called it them marlin 1895 LTD III, oct barrel just like the one you have.
seemed about perfect for a quick handling rifle, probably hardx to find now.

I really like my 18" barreld 45-70: very handy and compact

The 16 might be a better choice with that octagon barrel. Mic might take a while to get your rifle done , but I have shot & handled several of his lever guns top notch work.
Another source is Jim West of Wild West Guns. He recently opened a second store, this one, in Las Vegas. No need to send it all the way to Anchorage.
