357 magnum rifle - bullet drop question

by stonewalrus, Saturday, February 25, 2012, 12:39 (4468 days ago)

I just replaced the sights on my Rossi 92 with a 20 inch barrel. All I have been able to sight in at thus far is 25 yards. With dead on at 25, what can I expect at 50, 75 and 100 yards? I'm using 158 gr softpoints from American Eagle (Federal).
Thanks.

Assuming certain variables

by brionic @, Saturday, February 25, 2012, 14:28 (4468 days ago) @ stonewalrus

such as: temp, altitude, no wind, etc etc

AND

assuming 1700 fps and bc of .206:

Impact down .64" at 50
Impact down 2.32" at 75
Impact down 5.14" at 100

If you're planning on shooting to 100, then a 75 yard zero would be great... up less than an inch at 25 and 50, and down just over 2" at 100.

Thanks. that gives me a ballpark to work from

Not bad out to 75 yards.

If you set the elevation up one more notch, you should be close to on at 50 yards. That should do for anything out to 80 or so until we get a chance to shoot it some more at longer range.

Wasn't much fun slopping around in the mud the other day. Sorry 'bout that.

Sounds good. thanks

I was surprised - pretty flat shooting out to 75 yards. Think I have me a winner.
