Well went from 35 Remington to 6.8 SPC...

Bought a new Marlington 336C 35 Remington this week. Finally got a chance to pull it out of the box and look it over well last night. The walnut was pretty nice but the finish was real dull, unlike the old Marlin Marshield finish. Also, the inletting at the top front of the come looked like a 4 year old kid did it...uneven, wavy and different depths. It just didnt meet my expectations. I took it back and my gun store graciously took it back. Walked out even trade for a like new 6.8 SPC stainless Ruger Ranch Rifle. I don't have an owners manual or sight adjusting tools but I can get the former from Ruger as well as anything else I need. I know nothing of this caliber as of yet, other than it looks like a 223 necked up to 270. Before I go to bed, though, I intend to educate myself. Been wanting a Ranch Rifle for years. Nice rugged little compact rifle. Should do well for Texas deer, pigs and predators, two legged or four:) I might look for an old Marlin or a Contender handgun in 35 Remington one of these days.

Heard Marlin quality control was poor these days.

.30 Remington round shortened and necked to .270 with ballistics approximating the 7-30 Waters. Can't say that's bad and the new Ruger semi-auto rifles are getting fair reviews from those that actually own and shoot them be it in .223, 7.62x39 or 6.8. Don't see many 6.8s though.

Thanks Hobie,
Would you say that if it's a 6.8 it would have to be under the umbrella of the new and improved Mini's?

I think so... Early in the morning but I think the sn

starts with 580 or 581 or later. A check shows that the 6.8 SPC isn't cataloged now. Of course Jeff tested one... http://www.gunblast.com/Ruger-RanchRifle68.htm

Just think .250 Savage. Balistic twins.
Friend Scotty's wife uses a 6.8 Mini 14 as her only deer gun. Hasn't failed her yet. It knocks whitetails plumb dead. She killed the biggest deer on their 1700 acre Sonora Texas lease this year with it.

Cool, thanks Mark. I think this rifle will be exactly what I've been wanting as long as it shoots half decent and ammo and components remain available. Sure is handy!
