One of the earlier models -- no shroud and a skinnier barrel. 2 incher and the long grip frame. Overall nice condition; just a little holster wear on the lefthand side of the barrel. Grips were not the usual discolored and dinged condition these come in, but minty-looking.

A toy, pure and simple, and as practical to me as a bra would be for Twiggy. But never having owned one before ...

Picked up some Fitz gunfighter grips for it on eBay later that day. I'm thinking it will get a steady diet of wadcutters.

Neat little guns. I had one that was my great uncles. Carried it quite a bit until I got a S&W 442. Gave the Cobra to my dad and he's taken it on several motorcycle trips all across the country since then. I never tried to wear it out but it wasn't a bad little gun to shoot.

Awwww... you've gone and done it now. Them old Colt DA .38 revolvers are as addictive as can be. You'll wind up toting that thing around and shooting at dirt clods, leaves, sticks in a pond, and all sorts of other inanimate objects just to see it put a bullet right where it's pointed. Then you'll have to have a Dick Special, then an old Official Police, maybe an old Trooper if you can find one....

The old Colt D frame 38s in all their configurations are very fine sixguns. I bought a Cobra (2") about 1967 and carried it and shot it extensively for several years. I also had a 4" Cobra that I liked very well.

I have found these small frame six shot Colts to be far superior to the Smith J frames with just a very little added size. By superior I mean, they handle and shoot like a larger service pistol. Very fine work can be done with these pistols.

Finding myself without one, I bought a fine 3" Detective Special a few years back. This one won't get away from me!

I am just learning some more about the D frame Colts myself. Picked up a Police Positive Special in 32 W.C.F. last month that was a bit rough and have been trying to bring it back to life. Very neat pieces. Hopefully you will enjoy yours for many years.

Better sights than S&W, and possibly more accurate.. Likes me J-Smif's, but D-frames filled a slot that has never been filled since their demise. Skinny bbl and all, they are precision instruments when given plenty of practice and good ammo. I think of owning and shooting them as a sort of art form and homage to fine American gun-making.
