Ejector Update
I’ve seen that cam cut on most thumb busters, but I’ve also seen just a straight cut. I would guess the cam is the solution to getting a full stroke while having a cylinder pin that is long enough to grab.
When I suggested shortening the pin, it was because I had seen it done on single actions that had their barrels shortened. Perhaps those particular revolvers needed a shorter pin in order to be able to easily remove it, but I had assumed it was to get more room for the extractor rod to move.
Either way, if your spring is completely stacked, I think you are on the right track.
