Thanks for mentioning "'Co. Aytch' Maury Grays, First Tennessee Regiment or, A Side Show of the Big Show" below. Found it in Kindle format for my favorite price (zippo) and have been reading it over the past several days. Much better reading than Livy or Tacitus which I've been whittling at for a while. His account of getting promoted to Fourth Corporal is hilarious! In all my reading on The Late Unpleasantness, it's the "rank and file" accounts I find most compelling.

On page 83 in my free kindle copy is the sub-chapter "dead angle". To me this is the most understandable and intriguing narrative in the english language.
