You might think.....
counting blessings and giving thanks might not actually help life's circumstances but then again it cannot make things worse either.....

Ele era velho.

Among the missionaries I was working with ..
I greatly resemble that last remark, but.....
In 1993 I was allowed to go about a great metropolis by myself with just a few hundred pesos, then at almost 500 per $ u.s. I could buy stuff, order lunch, ask directions and quickly kenned the bus routes were designated by colours. Problem was my near colour-blindness. There were three shades of green that went the same points of the compass but one shade went only so far, another a little more, etc. Likewise there was firetruck red and wine bottle red and bubblegum pink. Before I knew I was back where I started and had to seek a lighter or darker colour conveyance as the case might be.
All in all I knew that from downtown back to home, the green of the talcahuano harbour and the bluer pacific ought to be to my left. In an emergency, there were always kind and helpful folk who where eager to show-off their proficiency of english
They also told how to recognize long term missionaries
or expats who had lived out of the US for an extended time.
A first-year person, when eating, if they find a bug in their rice, will stop eating and not finish the meal.
A person who has been there 2 or more years, if they find a bug or bugs in their food, remove them and keep eating.
A person who has been there 4 or more years gets offended if there is no bugs in their food.
