Also in 1946, the delmore brothers "freight train boogie" is often cited as the first proper rock and roll song with merle travis on electric guitar. However, jethro burns is actually cited as the guitarist according to album liner notes.

Further in 1946, 17 year old Link Wray was playing in Norfolk area juke joints with a 1944 epiphone archtop fed through a radio cabinet to get arguably the first over-driven sustained noises.
