Samuel R Watkins of Columbia Tennessee wrote in 1882 of the events of 1862 as a private in company H of the 1st Tennessee.....

The biggest misunderstanding is the character's feet being trodded on by a restless child. Only the so-called "churched" gets this. Oh the incalculable numbers of our pew sitting brothers and sisters who have been painfully inconvenienced by passing-by congregants, often youngsters, since the invention of hard shoes !
