Timmy Whittaker

Being a preacher in Southern West Virginia gives me opportunity to minister in many Local Assemblies. On a normal year we do somewhere between 100 & 120 sermons. I try not to turn any Church down. One of the Assemblies I visit a couple times a year is in a very poor & depressed area called Tommy Creek. This is just out of Odd, WV. It is home to the Whittakers of Odd found on a UTube channel, see the link below. One of that family is Timmy. Timmy loves pencils, note pads & coloring books so I try to take him something each visit. While he isn’t verbal, he knows exactly who I am & gives me a hug first thing. Years ago, Jim T. provided this picture in a post & I kept a copy. This is Timmy holding one. He loves it.

Describing some of my wife's and daughter-in-law's experiences with folk with handicaps along this line but when I mentioned the name of a local facility the auto-content censor baulked, with an exclamation marked warning triangle, at the word a d u l t so nevermind.

GOD bless you Rev. H and GOD bless Odd in general and the Whittakers in particular.

It is the same at other sites......

Even muzzleloading and percussion revolver themed boards/forums reject the posting of n i p p l e (s), preferring "cones" instead.

A lot of website do not like profanity of any sort ...

even mild profanity.

Mark Twain said that "Most people should not swear. This is not a moral judgment but an artistic one. The fact is, most people don’t know how to swear any more than they know how to play the bassoon. Both require years of practice and expert instruction. Yet virtually all the swearing one hears in the course of a day sounds trite, discordant, and uninspired. The lack of melody and imagination offends the ear more than the words offend the sense of decency. Profanity should therefore be left to the skilled and well-trained professional."

Martin Luther said, "the curse of a godless man can sound more pleasant in God's ears than the Hallelujah of the pious".

It's a result of the flood of spam posts we've experienced in the past. You'd be amazed at how fast an unfiltered site can be overwhelmed by spammers hawking supposedly grown up yet adolescently preoccupied with imitation reproductive pseudo relationships and web sites for indulging in the same. I fully understand why certain words are banned not only here but other places as well - it ain't prudishness, it's a matter of survival.

Just mentioned.....

The name of the home where the folk like Timmy in the o.p. occupy themselves manufacturing straw brooms and string brooms and repackaging bulk bought incandescent bulbs for retail from a dwindling supply now that they are essentially banned. But I could not post that completely innocent word. No matter the excuse, there is something wrong with that.

Indeed. On another board we have a registration process

where the member signs up and then is approved before they can post.

Deleting ten unknown registrations per day and all of them have 'p o r n' or 'casino' emails.

Pitiful that this is required - we are TOO civilized, IMHO.
