Picked up a Vortex Crossfire II…..

…..at a very reasonable rate compared to Amazon and Walmart. 2-7x32 with a Dead Hold BDC reticle.

I realize this is their bottom of the line scope, but I needed something fast and cheap for the CVA 444, because I would rather spend money on my family this week.

Depending on how it performs, I can easily replace it later if necessary, but I wondered if any of you have used that series before. Have I suckered myself?

I have had one or two. I think I had a 2-7 scout model. It worked just fine but was a bit on the heavy side. They are decent scopes for the money. Probably better than some others in their prices range.

I have 5 or 6 of the 4x12 PA Crossfires on 22lr and 17 HMR rifles and I have no complaints. I've never had a problem with any of them. They work well and have become my go to scope for rimfire rifles with their parallax adjustments...

As long as it has a generous enough eye relief you should be "good to go".

3.9” didn’t sound too bad actually!

I couldn't remember what the relief was on those. That should be OK. Just pay attention to proper cheek weld, etc. Those light little rifles can be "enthusiastic" when touched off! Once I got a decent scope on my 35 Whelen I started enjoying it. A 444 will definitely get your attention. Looking forward to your reports on it!

….it has turned out to be heavier than I expected, and definitely nose heavy to boot.

I am going to pull the recoil pad and create a tunnel so I can always get to the through bolt, then fill around that with spray foam and a bit of weight. I need to experiment with some taped on weight first to achieve the proper balance and feel.

I doubt I will add more than a pound, if even that much, but it needs to be done without any doubt. The balance as it stands without the scope mounted is already poor. Installing the scope probably won’t make it much worse, but it surely won’t improve it unless I adjust the weight distribution.
