Ruger 10/22 in .22 WMR...

by AaronB, Saturday, December 21, 2024, 10:49 (3 days ago)

Since I have a .22 WMR revolver I got a wild hair and thought "I should have a rifle in the same caliber. Don't they make a Ruger 10/22 in .22 Mag?"

So I went on Gunbroker and looked at a few.

[gulp]

I don't think I want one that bad. The prices are stupid.

Poking around on Gunbroker just looking at rifles in .22 WMR caliber, there are plenty of good options, new or used, that wouldn't cost a four-digit number to own.

Just sayin'...

For example, there's this Bergara.

And there's this Henry.

And what about this Savage?

As for pump guns, there's always this Henry here.

And also this Rossi.

While we're at it, let's not forget the venerable combo guns, like this one.

Plenty of options.

…..for just over ten years, I can honestly say I’ve handled all of those except that particular Savage, and the only one worth the asking price is the Bergara.

I can’t comment on the Savage obviously, but the rest are made of plastic and zamak (think pot metal and you are close) for the most part, and will NEVER last long enough for grandchildren to enjoy if those guns even make it to your kids.

Most of the .22 WMR Savage bolt actions I’ve handles are decent, albeit a bit crude. If you want another suggestion, look at the Ruger American series, they punch well above their price class.

My Ruger American .22 Magnum is a tack driver.

It makes me appear to be a good shot!

I set a 5.56 empty on the target frame at 50 yards. Resting the rifle over my rolled up sleeping bag this was the first shot.

Three shots at 130 yards.

I agree about the Bergara.

Not really comparable to a lever action 22mag, but someone might appreciate this. Several years ago I bought a Bergara B14R in 22lr to test suppressor designs. Wanted a consistently accurate rifle, but wasn't about to thread a M52. After shooting it a bit, I was seriously impressed! Installed a Triggertech Diamond trigger and upgraded the scope from Athlon to Zeiss. (The upper end models of Athlon scopes are excellent, which is disturbing from a chicom perspective.)

FWIW, If I were in the market for a new production rifle, my first choice would be a Bergara and second would be a Ruger American.

Ruger 10/22 in .22 WMR...

Best deals on 22 WMR are Pump rifles. Rossi < four Benjimen's on GB. I picked up a 9422M, way back when, for a ridiculous price because no one wanted the lamo-camo wood furniture at the time. I keep a Win 275 Pump 22WMR w red dot at the back door. Between the two, the pump is slicker and quicker for me.
