Question for Air Rifle Paul...
or any others. My FFL guy has a Gun of the Week email he sends out, well, almost on a weekly basis. The latest has an air rifle with the following description:
Weihrauch Mellrichstadt-Bay
Model=HW50s Air rifle
.177 pellet
Made in West Germany for Beeman's Precision Airguns
18 1/2 inch barrel
43 inched over all
Fantastic Beeman rear sight
Tunnel front sight
Monti Carlo style stock design
To be honest, I have a couple-three air rifles I don't shoot so I am somewhat uninterested. Question is, should I be? Priced at $225 OTD.
Thanks!
Question for Air Rifle Paul...
…..it is definitely a classic, and if in good shape, the price is very acceptable.
A golden oldie from Dr. Beeman days! I sure miss his marketing style
Otony
Thanks for that Tony.
Doctor stuff today while I ponder it.
Question for Air Rifle Paul...
We don't see a lot of the HW rifles down here, but they have quite a following over in the UK where power limits rule the day. As I recall, the HW50 is a mid power (from UK perspective) rifle. You're probably looking at around 600 FPS with a 7 to 8 grain pellet or so. Not a powerhouse, but for relaxed plinking it's hard to beat. It'd be worth looking at. You can get springs/seals from Air Rifle Headquarters.
Thanks for that.
Still cogitating. We sure don't need any more things to 'not shoot' here....
Thanks for that.
One thing on that level of "power", they make for a fairly pleasant indoor shooting experience. I have a couple similar powered rifles and the cardboard pellet trap makes about the same noise from the impact that the rifle makes when firing.
I've found that an apple box with a stack of corrugated cardboard inside (stacked face on to the shooter) makes for a dandy indoor trap. Shucks, it'll stop 32 ACP FMJ and a lot of other stuff too, but those aren't "indoor friendly".
So if you need a bit of trigger therapy during the winter or otherwise outdoor not friendly times, such a light rifle makes for a dandy companion.
On the other hand, so does a Daisy single stroke pneumatic from the CMP. Haven't looked for a while, but they were selling used ones for around $100 US a while back. That's one I really wish we had access to down here...
