but at my age it's a forgivable offense.

Playing with my .44 Special I noticed that the .40 S&W cartridge is the correct diameter to be used as a projectile ... so why not? I learned many years ago that if you are shooting an empty cartridge as a projectile, you have to load them base first or the primer will blow out and leave the cartridge stuck someplace in the bore ... usually about 1/4 of the way through.

I fired the first two loads into some old towels that I had in the shop. I wanted to see what the 'bullets' looked like.

On the Range at 15 yards they did OK. These would be fun to shoot rabbits with. They did hit quite low, which was expected since the gun is regulated for the Keith 250 gr. SWC.

A person could learn to hold "off" and do OK.

Didn't you do something similar years ago using a 45 acp inside of a bigger case and shot thru a piece of plywood with it? I remember seeing a picture of a case embedded in plywood.

I used the .45 ACP cases. We got them up over 2000 fps. I shot into a telephone pole and it went more than 6" into the pole.

Something worthwhile to do with all those 40's that got picked up over the years. :-D

I hate 40s. They do unholy things when mixed in a tumbler

I use them as jackets for the 444 bullets I swage. When I can find them to pick up they are much cheaper than buying jackets. I do have to trim them some for the correct bullet weight I
am making.

Ecellent! Speer started by using .22 cases for jackets.

They worked quite well.

Fill that 40 case with hot glue

480 Ruger. 45 acp case, 300 gr. 45-70 sized .452, wt. 400 gr. Still stable and cutting nice round holes at 100 yards. My way of disposing of those darn small primer 45 cases.[image]

Here is a video on making 44 magnum boolits with 40S&W cases
