Whee doggies! (S&W prices)

Feeling the odd urge to window-shop .357s, I popped open Gunbroker and searched on "Smith Model 13." OK, the numbers were high, but I get it... our dollars are smaller than they used to be.

I typed in "Smith Model 19." The numbers were a little higher. Okay okay, it's a little more gun, fair enough, but if I were to buy one I would shop carefully.

I typed in "Smith Model 27" and just about swallowed my teeth!

It took a couple of minutes of browsing Ruger .357s to calm me down.

You might check Cabela's Gun Library ...

they have some nice guns and once in awhile you can find a fairly good deal ... according to today's dollars. The nice thing about buying from them is you pay the store and then they will ship it for free to the nearest Bass Pro or Cabelas to you. When you pick it up you only have to fill out the Federal paperwork .. no charges involved in shipping or them handling it.

The Cabela's around here seem to have shipped...

all their deals out. Average Smiths start at around $800 and head north. Oh, and sometimes the clerks can get a little testy if you say, "I'm just updating the replacement costs of my collection."

The prices are going ever higher .... but

if you check the website, https://www.cabelas.com/l/used-guns you can sometimes find decent prices on some. Going through the list, I specified S&W .. Revolvers and found a few Model 10's under $600 ... which to me is really high but with our ever-shrinking dollar it ain't gonna get any better any time soon.

The whole world has gone insane.

A few years ago, in a local Cabela's in WV the gun Library had a bunch of Savage bolt action rifles. All of were new, but they looked like they were all unboxed and placed in the back of a pickup truck with about a wheelbarrow of gravels and drove a hundred miles while they all bounced around like brass in a tumbler.

They wanted top dollar for all of them. I suspect they were either railroad salvage from a train wreck, or a semi-truck wrecked and the traffic behind ran over all the rifles.

About two years ago, I bought a brand new S&W 25-whatever, over $1K out the door. I sold it fairly quickly, unfired.
