300 Blackout reload project #2.......
Reloading project #2 goal was a decent but low cost 120 gr bullet at high velocity with reasonable accuracy for general plinking and blasting steel targets. Rifle was my 10.3" blaster AR15, unsuppressed, chronographed at 12 feet and accuracy tested at 50 yards with five shot groups.
Bullet choice was the Sierra Tipped Game King.....
It is short and stubby but has a good rep for working in the 300 Blackout with good accuracy.
After some research for general load data, H110 was picked as the powder as most sources stated light weight bullets worked best with H110 for high velocity, a safe but heavy charge of 18.9 grs was used in the test ammo. While I was worried about the small amount of bullet base inside the case, my OAL was in line with major ammo company specs. When it comes to feeding AR's OAL is very important for reliable feeding so I ran with the number I had.
Temp was 85 deg, slightly humid sunny day, chronograph average was 2082 fps with a spread of 42 fps. Speed checked off the list, more rounds were fired thru the rifle for general reliability test and to condition the barrel a little for this bullet before the accuracy testing, ran 100%. Allowed the rifle to cool a bit, ran a bore snake down the bore to clear any unburnt powder then started 5 shot group shooting, it didn't take long to see the combo was pretty decent and consistent.
I believe I have found a decent load that is reasonable in cost but runs reliably and doesn't break the bank.
