Don Sikes - from Facebook
Don died last night. He went peacefully in his sleep. He was my love... my best friend.. and the kindest, most gentle soul I ever met. There is no way I can sum up what a unique and wonderful man that he was in this stupid letter to my heart. My heart which is broken now.. cries out for him. I keep thinking that I will wake up and this will all have been a bad dream.
Don was a gifted musician. A warm-hearted animal lover. My partner in adventures for thirty one years. He'd want me to say something about his 22 years in the Air Force and his last decade as gentleman farmer. And most importantly... he loved his family dearly.
Don had friends all over the world and kept in touch with them thru FB and the like. Some from his military days and some from his childhood in south San Antonio.
I have no way other than FB to notify his friends of his passing. There will be no public service. He wouldn't want that. In lieu of anything, Don would want you to remember him fondly and to hug your loved ones and tell them how much you love them while you can.

I sadly never met him, even though
he at one point lived an hour or less from me. I think he'd since moved out of Douglas County MO, but was still perhaps in Missouri.
What I will remember was how kind and encouraging he was to Melony, my then girlfriend. That was 20 years ago, btw. She had a difficult complex life, and Don kept very much in touch with her, offering her advice and encouragement. It helped.
I'm a fairly dark moody soul, but Mr Sikes was one of those folks you find from time to time, who was very much on the positive side. I appreciated him then, and I still do.
Oh crap...
Don was a good'un.
I will just add his trademark "[grin]"......(sigh)......
Godspeed Don.
I corresponded with him over the years but never met him.
Not sure why as we were both in Missouri about the same time.

Oh no. Another of the Old Guard gone.
I never met him in person, but he was a familiar 'face' on the board, and one of us.
Don Sikes - a good man
I wasn’t always in agreement with him about things, but you would look long and hard to find a better man.
May his memory be eternal. That is said often after someone passes, in this case it will hold true for a long, long time.

Sorry to hear it…
We conversed back and forth several times. He sure was one of the good guys…
RIP Don

Oh no. Another of the Old Guard gone. so true !
i seldom post any more but i still look in daily. it is always reassuring and makes me happy to see the names of the old guard still around....and it is sad to see one less of us here.
Sad news, on a sad day
We corresponded a few times, and he always struck me as a friendly, thoughtful gentleman.
May his memory be a blessing to his friends and family, and to all of us for fond recall of the good old Sixgunner days of yore.
Well, crap!

Don was a great guy, always up for a good chat and had a lot of wisdom to share. Back when we had a chatroom (that's been a few years), a group of us would gather there and have a grand old time talking gun's and life in general. What a sad loss of yet another one of our long time family here.
Rest in Peace Don.
