GO KART

We picked up a Massimo GKM 125 Go Kart for next to nothing. The guy that owned it was having problems with it and it needed work. I found that it needed a new carburetor, the valves were burned and the capacitor and coil on the ignition were going bad.

I hand-lapped the valves, installed a new carb and ignition and it runs like a striped ape! It has a 3 speed transmission with a reverse also. I have opened it up a bit on out road and it is fast enough it's a little scary.

My grandsons are learning to drive it. Staying in 1st gear for now. But I am having a hoot with it!

This is the GKM 125 ... 125 cc engine. Ours is blue but the same machine.

at my age with my aging joints, getting in and out would be problematic... but it would be so much fun...

That looks like a real hoot of a ride! Always wanted one as a kid, still do. Just don't have any place to drive one. Also always wanted to "build my own", but that's less likely to happen. It's fun seeing other folks enjoy them, though! Thanks for sharing! Looks like quite a step up from the old Briggs Stratton powered ones.

It will really scooot. I held it wide open for 1/4 mile ...

and scared myself. Felt like I was doing 150 mph ...when you are sitting 4" off the ground. It is supposed to be able to hit 35 mph but this one has had some things done to it to speed it up a bit. On the dirt it will run faster than you want to. :-)

Good to see you got it running.

I have two that I rebuilt that will both go over 35 with a little adjusting. A few years ago Kathryn was winning on the track we have in the pasture and I drove it in way too hard under her into a turn and it came around on me and flipped. I had the throttle pinned but the tires just didn’t have enough traction to drive out from under the skid.

It doesn’t have any roll protection so I landed on my face and shoulder. I was a bit sore for a few days.

The boys are going to have a blast on it. I am really considering building a grown up sized one to race with the boys when they get a little older. We have a lot of fun on them.

Massimo has a GKM200 that will hold 2 grownups ...
