Hearing protection, Electronic... it is the best way to go
The very best I have used are by OTTO. 400 bucks... They are outstanding but small, and easy to loose...dang it! I am currently using Walkers Shooting Hunting Razor XV 3.0 Behind The Neck Headset Hearing Protection Enhancer with/Without Bluetooth at 63 bucks a set collar type blue tooth so I can listen for my phone and to my music while operating lawn mowers or tractor and in my older trucks... AND they work great on the range and in the Gunsite Fun House and play house. I like to wear a full brim hat on the range. these allow that. I have Walkers and Howard Leight electronic muffs when bigger rifle shooting is a all day thing. I have used Howard Leights (HL)for over a decade now, very good ear pro for the money. They turn off after a 20 minutes or so of no use. AA batteries last forever. Great easy to use volume control. I cut off some cotton socks to insulate my ears a bit better in the heat and cold of Arizona at 5,000 feet.

Of the Troops & For the Troops
I could see your lips moving but I couldn't hear you.
We never used hearing protection until in the late 1970's .. after years of shooting. So these days if I want to take a nap I put in ear plugs and listen to the cicada's sing in my head.

Definitely agree with you Rob. I'm using the little Walker rope hearing enhancers. They seem to work pretty well for me, 30+ db reduction and a little bit of amplification. I see they are now about half what I paid back when I bought mine. Tried the Walker electronic plugs but kept falling out/running over/stepping on them.

You're not the only one.
Dad has secretly taught himself how to lipread. All this masking shenanigans at medical clinics & hospitals has driven him to distraction many times.
