S&W 44 C.T.G. DA.[image][image] This was totally locked up. sprayed with Sea Foam half dozen times over couple of weeks. Everything functional, locks up tight, haven't run a brush through it yet but very prominent rifling and cylinder chambers don't appear to be pitted.

Interesting. I've seen it used for various things, we can add freeing up rusted firearms to the list.

Is this a S&W 1st model 44?

Very cool. That poor old thing has been neglected.

One handy tip I’ve learned for rusty screws is to put the item in a drill press vice, if possible, and chuck up the screw driver bit. Then you can use the drill press to get a lot of good pressure on the driver into the slot and turn the chuck by hand. Less chance of the driver slipping out of the slot that way.

If it's that tight, I worry more about ringing it off.

Not going to open it up. Not mine just looking at it for a 'friend of a friend'. Have everything moving. Going to replace the hammer spring for him and give it back.
