Any pet loads for the .327 Federal?

by The Alsatian, Wednesday, January 26, 2022, 17:53 (1019 days ago)

I think the Federal factory 100 gr load is just a bit too much of a good thing.

I'm considering looking for something with a gas checked 110 gr cast bullet at around 1200 to 1300 fps.

Lyman shows.....

5 grains of unique, 231/HP-38 as near max in the .327 with the classic .32 w.c.f. bullet #311008 plain base 115 gr.....1200fps 3"

Thank you

Unique may be just what I need.

I use the XTP with a near max load of No 7

I agree that 5 gr. of Unique will give you what you want. That is my load in the .32-20.

Unique and 2400

I loaded some test loads with 10 gr of 2400. I will try that Unique load as well because I burn a lot more Unique than any other powder.

Unfortunately I am having trouble getting better accuracy

than the 85 gr Federal Factory load.

The 100 gr load is loaded hotter, but the 85 grain soft point shoots much better.

Unique got me where I wanted to be but it isn't where I want it for accuracy.

Trying H110 with the 100 gr XTP and 110 gr WFN next.

Found the load, but it wasn't quite what I was expecting

Turns out that 12 gr of H110 really makes that 100gr XTP shoot small groups and by happy coincidence it works well with 110gr WFN from Montana Bullet Works.

Cases come out real easy and the primers (CCI small pistol) still have rounded edges, unlike the factory Federal loads.

I have gotten pretty good accuracy with IMR Target. Go to Hodgdon Load Data center for data. [image]

Thank you

Looks like you found a load that works.
