I've had back surgery and rotator cuff surgery....Back surgery seems like a minor thing compared to the shoulder..took me almost a full year. With lots of PT to get my arm back.
Do what the Doc, and the physical therapist tell you. Maybe do some handgun shooting with small Calibers and the other arm.
