Berry's plated bullets question

I ordered 500 Berry's .312" 71 gr. RN. The label says 1250 fps Max. Velocity. What's up with that? 4.5 gr. of Clay Dot under an 80 gr. RN cast from WW is getting me 1400 fps with good accuracy at 25 yds. and no leading to speak of. Any reason not to run them up to 1600 fps? Searching for 2 or 3 of the best 25 yd loads for 100 yd testing.

I'll take a guess-
The alloy in the bullets cast from wheelweights is likely harder than the alloy in the swaged and plated bullets and therefore better resists impact with the rifling. Softer bullets can strip when they hit the rifling and not be properly stabilized.

But in your situation the best way to answer your question is to do some experiments. If you get higher than 1200fps with good accuracy then nothing wrong with doing that.

Agree, Pure lead swaged and plated. Guess I will need to shoot some into water jugs for recovery and examination.
