Bulk 22 ammo - any recommendations?
Thinking of stocking up on some bulk 22 ammo. I have had friends complain about Federal and Winchester. I have had issues with Remington. in the past.
I use my local stores.
if they are not well stocked NOW, find another store or have them order it in for you

I use my local stores.
CCI blazer is good ammo I just picked up another case. Other favorites are the 550 box of federal 36gr HPs, the Aguila Super Extra is good stuff and for a little better CCI Standard velocity and Mini Mags are great,
Target Sport has free shipping and good prices.
Right now CCI/Federal have a rebate of the value of one free box for every 5 purchased .
I go through CCI Standard by the case in cans. It is a good
Baseline that is easily duplicated. I suspect the current production is different than the older stuff - for some reason, it doesnt group as well in the same guns.
Aguila Match Rifle works exceptionally well in my 52s.
Aguila Super Extra is great in cans, but wont reliably cycle semi-autos. Some will, some won't.
CCI Mini Mags work well in everything, but are supersonic in barrels over about 4".
Remington really, really sucked years ago but they are much better now.
Federal bulk is good.
Depends on what your gun or application needs or likes.
Do you want it loose in a can or a large quantity of good
ammo? Are you more concerned with price or quantity?
If one buys by the case I like the Mini-Mags to work in anything, then the Winchester PowerPoints, then Federal, Golden-Bullets. I have quantities of older Standard Velocity but it doesn't work through all semi-autos. I think the Federals have a thicker rim and don't work with some extractors. I bought 6 or 8 bricks of thunderbolts
A couple of years ago when you couldn’t find any rimfire. It was pretty good ammo and was really accurate in my 22/45.
Now that you can get it fairly cheap I was going to buy a case but decided to buy a couple of bricks just to make sure they shot like the 2 year old ammo. No joy, the ammo isn’t accurate and belches blames out the ejection port. I suspect the brass is too hard and not sealing the pressure.

I have had nothing but trouble with Rem thunderbolts.
Federal Bulk HP boxed in a sealed can...same as always. NT

Bulk 22 ammo - any recommendations?
I have gotten to where I don't trust any of the bulk .22 ammo. QC seems lousy on all of it, regardless of brand. I buy it for junk plinking ammo, but load only CCI Mini-mags for any serious purpose since I wounded and lost a coyote in my backyard a couple of years back. D----d Remington "Golden Bullet" HP failed to even work the action of my behind-the-door Marlin M2, and the 'yote got to the woods before I could clear it. One experience like that was enough to get me sworn off the cheap stuff.
This was back when .22 ammo was scarce, and the ammo companies were apparently running their production lines full blast, with little attention to quality. Maybe it's better now, but the last Federal bulk I bought (last October) was still crummy.
My Experience
We have a group of guys that shoot 22 pistol falling plate match every Saturday and we have used every brand of bulk ammo on the market. This stuff will vary from batch to batch, but over the long term, we have found Federal to be the best.
When the 22 drought was over, I bought five cases of Federal 22 Auto. This stuff has a little more pep to function well though autoloaders.
More looking for quantity but reliability too

Those bricks I bought 2 years ago were good stuff. Older and current production have both been crap in my experience as well.
That Federal .22 Autoloader has even been used in some
BR matches and not placed last. When the winners are shooting possibles or nearly so that says something.
