i have used the sierria 100 gr flat base spire point for many years, killed over 20 deer with this bullet. john

I have used the Hornady 100 gr. Spire Point with great accuracy and lethality.

My favorite was the Speer 100gr Hot Core. But I also used several 87 and 90 gr slugs with no better accuracy or lethality.

Not quite related to the OP's post (sorry Hobie), but I'll tell this tale. Many years ago I "sporterized" a 6.5x50 Japanese Arisaka that my Dad brought back in 1946. Knew next to nothing about rifles then (still don't) but I was in college and thought I knew everything. This rifle had a bore that looked like 22 miles of jeep trail, thanks to the corrosive Jap ammo. When I later got into handloading, the first load I tried was a starting load from the Lyman manual I bought - 33.0 grains of IMR 3031 under the little 85 grain Sierra spire point. It would (and still will) shoot into 3/4 of an inch at 100 yards and I have done in all sorts of critters with that little bullet since. Other than the terrifically expensive Norma 139 grain factory load, that rifle will not shoot for sour apples with anything else I have tried. Makes no sense, but few things do to me these days.
Hobie I have most of a box of these.
At least I think that's what I have. Wouldn't shoot in my old Savge, you're welcome to try them.

It has been 50 years since I loaded for and hunted with a 250-3000. It was a slow twist Savage 99 and was MOA with 87 grain bullets, but 2.5 MOA with 100 grain bullets, but that was still good enough to hunt deer. I was using Sierra 100 grain bullets and it did a good job on several deer, one antelope and a passle of javelina.
After a fling with the rifle and round, I went back to my Winchester 70 in .243. That was my main deer rifle for 25 years. I used others, but that was my go-to deer rifle.
