Range Session with the RIA 1911 9mm....

More ammo means another range test with my new RIA 1911A1 9mm........before heading to the range I used my JMT II sight pusher to move the rear sight a slight bit to the right to correct the low left POI from the first test session, not messing with the front sight height at this time.

Brought 150 rounds of MagTech 115gr and 50 rounds of the 124gr ammo. At this point all I have done to the pistol is a very basic cleaning and move the rear sight. First surprise of the day is this.....

Not only a nice 9 round group (low shot was my fault) but it hit point of aim, 100 rounds of the 115gr ammo and no issues of any kind. Switched to the 124gr ammo and got this......

Best of the day with the 124gr, the two high hits was me firing too quickly. Finished off the rest of 124gr ammo and got out the last box of the 115gr and preceded to blast it at a steel plate. Here's were karma bit me in the A$$.....in the middle of firing off a magazine I think "great, not a single failure to extract", no sooner than I think that BAM!!! FTE!! Clear it and finish off the mag. OK, good, just one, reload all three mags and start shooting again, next mag two FTE, another mag and several more FTE's and that finished off the ammo.

Three thoughts.....the first and maybe the second FTE might have been caused by my left thumb bumping the slide stop, not 100% sure. At this point the pistol was getting really warm from the rapid fire, is the black coating on the outside of the barrel on the inside of the chamber causing issues???? But the third option is were I am leaning.....the last box of 115gr ammo was from a different lot than the other two boxes, was it hotter???? The one case I ejected into my hand was really hot. Kinda interesting that the first 100 rounds of 115gr operated fine from one lot and I had issues with a different lot, but at the end of shooting I was shooting faster and the outside temp was higher than when I started.

Next step is to do a little lite polishing on the inside of the chamber to smooth it up and buy a different brand of ammo and test again.
