The internet rarely forgets, sometimes we do.
Once again I fell down the rabbit hole of the internet. Searching for one thing leads to another, then on to another.
A while ago I found myself reading a post on a forum. Then part way through it, I realized who I was reading.
http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=20472&Main=19916
Ravenwolf, Jeff H. who posted on the old forums. I write Jeff H. because I can never remember his last name. Heenan? or something similar. That bugs me that I can't remember, so I set about to find it. Just like I have several times in the past. (You'd think I'd put it somewhere in my computer). This time I didn't have the same luck as in the past. The internet's memory is getting buried deeper and deeper.
This lead me to searching not only the net, but my own computer, old Nor' Easter posts and photos. Like usual, that had me making the mental list of those who showed but are now gone.
Jim LeVach (Deaf Smith)
Doc O'Mera
Jeff H.(Ravenwolf)
Pete martin (PCM)
Frank Himschoot (Frank H)
I wonder if there are more.
Along the same lines, in looking for the correct spelling of "big Jim's' name, I found a post by him mentioning the passing of Dean Grennell and Warren center.
"Two great men have passed this year. In April the legendary Dean A Grennell passed quietly in his home in Ca. His writting is and should be well known to all Contender shooters and owners.
In May of this year Warren Center has also passed, the designer and inventer of the Contender we all own him a debt we can never pay for making a gun we all love and have enjoyed for many years.
We have lost two of the great ones in the firearms field their like will never be replaced. Rest in peace Gentlemen! You will be missed.
James LeVach"
I'll admit it though.... I have reservations bout sending this post, that someday too soon someone could be pointing it out in reference to me.
The internet rarely forgets, sometimes we do.
I think about a lot of those names myself. Ravenwolf was a great guy Good shooter and had very interesting gear. I often wonder what his daughter is up to .A very nice young girl when I met her but totally fearless. Remembering her eating the Extra hot campfire Chili and saying to the men that were complaining come on it's not that bad. Think of Frank H all the time still never finished My 480 Alaskan we collaborated on. Just bought a holster for it so it will be an upcoming project to finish I will make it my Pa hunting sidearm and will take a deer with it as well as a turkey somewhere Maybe WV when I ride the bike out to see Creeker.-All on the list of things to do. Most of all I miss the Nor'Easter great kick off to the shooting season and a great way to blow off winters dust and sleep in a tent and get the blood boiling to get out and do it again. J.Michael
My inability to remember names is Olympic class.
I can remember people, faces, events, even guns, and could not tell you their names under torture.
Here's a few more:
Joe Mattingly TX
Jack Mattingly TX
Charlie Smith LA
Doc Hudson AL
"Jumpin Jack" (Korean war fighter pilot, flew Sabres - cant remember his name right now)
The guy with the corny jokes - died during a routine heart cath. I cannot remember his name either.
Rod WMG. (Wants more guns) TX, I believe. Diabetic, sent him some gun books when he was laid up.
Another Texan, killed himself early 2010 IIRC. Name is not coming up either. Had several sons and a wife; ate dinner with them at CSA a few times. Rob A knew them better.
Have a feeling i have left some out.
I was thinking about Rod just yesterday.
I think of many of them often.
http://sixshootercommunity.com/we-remember/#comment-50113
Jack (the fighter pilot's) name is escaping me at the moment... but it's one I usually know. (it's been a very bad week for remembering things like names for whatever reason)
Richard - that's him.
Dewayne Headrick MS is another good one gone.
Lee Jurras also
Cant believe I forgot the Texas Ranger -
Wilson Dew TX
And Twyla, JimT's wife - she did scrimshaw for a lot of us here.
Shawn Purkey maybe?
A lot of good ones gone. Maybe it's just my 'time of life' but I think of a lot of these fellers often. In a way, I still feel like a bit of a newcomer to this group, in all its' incarnations, even though it's been more'n a couple years. Time seems very relative to me. Somethings happened just yesterday but, in reality, 20 (or more) years ago. It's kind of a weird 'displacement' sometimes...
Good men all.
The old name game....
Via the wayback machine. Please excuse any omissions or duplications. ;)

I even found a very rare post from my now gone brother in law, that kind of jolted me.
Reading through that list...
and the big list I made, I kept going... "I got a sight elevator from Richard Easley. Wilson Dew gave me a set of Trooper grips. I bought a knife from him, I sold that guy a rifle way too cheap, I bought a pistol from him...." :D
Tensleep.... was he "here" or on lever guns? I believe he's gone.. I keep thinking he was the one who passed during the stress test? Or was it just from someone from Tenn. and I'm confusing them.
cas...uhhh, I'm still around: cherokee
I'm 76 but still trucking along.
I know Richard E. died during a heart procedure.
Almost certain it was a cath.
Tensleep I remember slightly. Perhaps he was just leverguns.

Sixgun is alive on Leverguns.
I believe Buck Elliot posts there from time to time as well.
Last time I saw Cyrus was meeting up with him at a PA gunshow some years ago.
Carl was fighting cancer. My last contact was a brief email from him in 2015. I hope he's with us and doing well.
I know little else, I won't feed the beast so I stay off FB.
The old name game....
I am sure the Jeff and Bogey Q are glad to hear that they are just on a users list, not otherwise included among the names being missed.
Bill Oregon (apparently there are two)anyway, one is now Bill NM, though still using the old name.
Tensleep was on Leverguns...
We've lost a bunch over there as well. I suppose this is why old men become so sentimental, they are around when so many of their friends are no longer. At least there is the promise of the hereafter.

Hobie
Jeff Stamper...

Sixgun is alive on Leverguns.
Sixgun Retired and is hard to find.
Cyrus Had a change in his work and ended up relocating Have not heard from him in some time. I think when he relocated he had no place to shoot -New Job - kids getting older ect.
Tensleep was on Leverguns...
I kind of thought that's where he was from.
Then I will continue to try to come up with a name.
The man I'm thinking of went in for a stress t-est, part way through they stopped it and rushed him into surgery and the lost him on the table.

Had to be Richard Easley
Alive and well, just read more than I post most places. NT

I don't think it was.
The connection I make in my head to the person was a picture they posted of themselves. I'd also seen a picture of Mr. Easly which I remember and it's not who I'm remembering. If that makes any sense. lol
Cyrus is on Linked in
Not signed up, so I can't contact. That's another beast I won't feed. lol

Really. Must've been two, then? I don't remember a second. I remember doc h and I talking to Richard because he was exceptionally worried. We kept telling him it was routine, but his instinct was correct
I don't think it was.
Who I'm thinking of was a rather large, rounder man, which I don't recall Richard E. being quite so much?
Who knows, I'm still racking my brain trying to think of Jack's name. I make mental connections, usually ones I can't break even if I want to... I posted a picture my father took of an F86 and he commented on it with "insider" detail. All these years later when I see the picture I would say his name and think of what he wrote.
Only this week my brain has been in a fog on all manner if things I would normally know. I don't know if it's stress, lack of sleep, a vitamin thing... lmao, but it's been so bad all week that I've just accepted it most times and let whatever I was grasping for go.
Well, I'm right there with ya. CRS.

That may be when I started talking to him about Sabres. We had a few discussions offline, but he said little here.
You have about talked my failing memory into believing tensleep was the other guy.
Hopefully someone else will chime in

Re. Tensleep...His name was Doug. He lived about 30...
...minutes north of me. He was driving his truck home one evening after work (he worked at a truck accessory type shop in the Portland area) when he had an aneurysm burst, I believe. He was found in his truck, pushed up against a fence with his foot still on the throttle. A number of us from the area were at his service.
...how about Doc Hudson? Didn't he die in a similar way?

The name Lancer
If memory serves he was the first to purchase from Dry Creek Bullet Works.
Shawn Purkey maybe? Yes it was
I think that had a lot to do with it. He worked with children in PICU and I think it ended up getting to him. One of the toughest funerals I've ever had to sit through...and so unnecessary. I still miss him greatly.
Man that brings back old memories...
Alf was formerly Lance, then Mr. Bubbles, and I'm not sure he isn't posting here of late with a rather plastic description.
That's a rather "plastic" subject my friend...
