Different grain pattern......
While back I bought a jumbo Desert Ironwood scale set, small boards really...

As soon as I saw it an idea popped into my head, instead of cutting the scale set with the grain I would cut it against the grain and use the blonde edges as color offset for the scales. I finally got around to trying it out and it worked pretty well and as a added bonus the grain orientation gives the look of tiger stripes to the set.
1095 HC steel with Desert Ironwood and nickel silver pins.
Turned out pretty good, ignore the dots on the blade, raining all day here : (

Great work Gunner.
If it weren't for being knife poor already, I would have to have one of yours. 1095 is great steel.
That Desert Ironwood sure is fancy stuff. You ever turned out grips for your 1911's out of any of it?

1911 grips.....
No I haven't, YET, bought the special grip screw hole cutter a few months back. Just need the right size/grain pattern pieces of Ironwood and time then I will try to make a set, it's always on my mind and would like a fancy wood set of scales for my 5" Baer.
