3rd ID

Our son Thomas is now halfway through his 11B OSUT and was pulled out of line with a small group of other premium trainees and ask if they could fit into "this uniform". They were all 6' to 6'1" broad shoulders, tight waist and long legs, all in his group blue eyes. Ask if they could go without alcohol for the next two years and never swear for the rest of their lives. They were drilled and smoked until the officers and Sergeants were done...

Thomas is now confirmed as 3rd ID "Old Guard" and after AIT will move to DC to guard "The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier" for the next 2 years. He had be assigned to the 10th Mountain and Afghanistan but that is now off the table for awhile. His momma is smiling. We have had children in direct fire combat before and it just the most stressful thing a parent can experience.

Wish the boy well and send him some positive vibes. He was the ROTC drill team commander for the 2nd ranked team in the country last year at the national trials of several hundred teams.

The regiment is the oldest active duty regiment in the US Army, having been first organized as the First American Regiment in 1784

This is his dream coming true.

Cheers,

Byron
