I canceled my REI membership today.....

I've been a member of REI for 45 years now. Living around Seattle they were a great source for outdoor gear, particularly way back when. Over the years they have gone from offering basic, high quality products at great prices, to just another yuppie store more concerned with looks than functionality and quality. In truth, I buy more from Cabelas these days than REI. The prices and selection at Cabelas is superior, and the quality is about the same...

When REI came out last week that they were dropping all products from Vista Outdoor (such as Camelbak, Bushnell, etc..) because Vista owns companies that make firearms and ammunition and refuses to endorse new gun control proposals and change their business practices to restrict law abiding people from buying guns, that was the last straw. I refuse to be a member of a co-op that actively works against my civil rights...

The local Cabelas store is a lot more interesting to visit anyway... I think I'll head down there next weekend....

I sent them an unhappy email yesterday myself...

...letting them know they'd lost a 30 year customer.

I followed your lead, and did so myself.

Always felt as though it was a liberal yuppie rich kid store anyway. I’d rather shop at a good farm supply.
