My thought as well. Lacking it, I suppose one could try to dig into the auction archive for a serial number.
He states that he has a letter from the Auction House

There is a letter from the auction house.
Also, not a "He" this is a female dealer. I worked for her years ago in a retail shop and she now just does GB fulltime.
