The rut is on...

Shot this nice little buck back behind my house yesterday. It had been so hot around here that I just could not bring myself to go out until yesterday when we got a good hard frost.

I have always instinctively imagined a whitetails heart to be a little higher in the chest and spent a little time studying whitetail anatomy before going out.

On my second cup of hot chocolate when this walked past the stand. At the shot he flinched and took two slow steps before falling dead on his nose.

I used a Rage mechanical blade with about a 3" cut this time and it performed perfectly.

The bolt did the job and the anatomy lesson was worthwhile...

The rage is a good head.

I had not been out in a week or so, and went out to hunt at my hunting grounds Friday morning only to discover all my stands had been stolen: Two ladder stands, two lock ons, two sets of climbing sticks, all gone. I've got my meat for the year, so I guess at least, I'm lucky in that respect.

You know, the thing of it is, I would have been more than happy to give the person a stand if he/she needed one.

Never had a problem like this until now.

Anyway, good job Byron.

What kind of person STEALS a stand (or camera)?

They're everywhere

I know a lot of folk, usually 'country folk' like to pretend that bad people are only in the big city and that everyone out in the country are good, honest hard working people. Around here it seems like there's a higher percentage of dirtbags outside the city limits. I hear a lot about four wheelers, trailers, stands, and trail cams getting stolen. My brother and his buddy lost their deer hunting spot when an old family friend sold the property and moved out west. They are now paying good money for a small hunting lease to hunt deer and turkey. They were down there during the week once and ran into a neighbor who was poaching on their property. He flat out told them that he lived close by and they didn't so he was going to hunt it when they weren't around! My wife's uncle lets me hunt his property and constantly has to chase people out of his woods!
