Question for the Group
Any ideas on how I might add a lanyard loop to a Ruger Standard Auto? I have a Mark II and Mark III. I like to take them fishing, but, being a klutz, I am all ways a little worried about deep-sixing one.
Hmmm...good question.
I think a fella might be able to fabricate some sort of threaded clevis pin to replace the heel release pivot for the Mk II. The same sort of arrangement could likely be used on the Mk III by drilling a hole.
Or maybe you can find a proper size Uncle Mikes barrel-mounted sling swivel and attach a lanyard to the barrel. Unconventional perhaps, but pretty simple.
Like this maybe? => https://www.midwayusa.com/product/750638/uncle-mikes-quick-detachable-magnum-band-style...
Get an extended magazine butt plate that some
people use for competition and drill a hole in it. The mag should be secure enough in the gun to hold it...just my first thought
Braided Fishing Line Around Trigger Guard?
Not very elegant, but easy & effective.
Question for the Group
An alternative- fit a flat piece of 0.035" brass/stainless shim stock under the outboard grip panel, with a minimal tab sticking out the bottom, drilled for a lanyard. That way if you drop the pistol at least the muzzle is pointed away from your upper body. Bend the tab out 45 degrees so it don't interfere with magazine removal. Skeletonize the center if necessary.
That's Pretty Clever! (nm)

This is a good idea, got to have the barrel pointing away
from you.

I like it.
Sounds like the way to go, Sarge.
The MK III has a plug where the heel mag release was on the MKI and MK II. I had thought of drilling a hole through the plug, but it's plastic so that probably wouldn't last very long. Your idea is worth exploring. Thank you.
