32 H&R single six

I've acquired a 32 H&R ruger bisley single six, fixed sights. Is there a better mold choice than the RCBS 98 SWC for general purpose plinking and small game stalks? I don't see myself shooting beyond 50yds often. Any experience with loads that shoot to fixed sights at 25yds? I see many gas check molds in this caliber.

The .32 magnum is one of my all time favorite revolvers. I have the drift adjustable 6.5" bisley and the 98 RCBS over 4.5 of unique hits right on top of the sight and goes about 1200 FPS. The RCBS bullet is one of the best balanced bullets in the .32 mag case.

The 311008 Is another favorite. They drop 115-120 from my different molds. 4.0 gr of unique is around 1100 FPS and hits a little high. It is perfect for longer shots.

I have fired thousands of rounds through my different .32s and never saw much of a need for a gascheck. I also don't really see much need to go above 1100-1200 with it unless you just want to. I have pushed the RCBS cast hard to 1400. If you want a gas check the 311316 is a good choice they are in the 120gr range. I have a HP version of the 311008 and 311316 and they make a nice small game bullet. If you step up to a .327 a gas check is nice but it is an added expense that detracts from the value of. A.32 mag.

My biggest complaint with the above mentioned molds is they are hard to find in anything but a 1 Or 2 cavity (two only in RCBS.) NOE makes the above mentioned style of molds in up to 5 cavity and you can add Hp pins on some of them.

I have tried a bunch of powders between Bullseye and H110 and I just keep coming back to unique.

That 311008 is a favorite bullet for me. I haven't tried the other molds but have shot a bunch of commercially cast stuff. Currently working on 1k of some plated HP bullets from Rainier. They seem to shoot well so far.

They just seem to shoot in anything I have tried them in. Once you get it figured out no use in re inventing the wheel.

I have gone as high as 6.0 gr with the RCBS, I got that load from some of taffins old writings and I think Skeeter used it before that. It is a hot load and I wouldn't use it in anything but the Ruger or the bigger Smiths. IIRC I was getting 1350-1400 with it in the 6.5 but had better accuracy at those velocities with a slower powder.

I think I maxed out at 5.0 with the 311008. Those loads are much higher than you will find in any manual, but they are maxed out at 18,000 CUP in deference to the H&R .32 magnums.

I measured the cylinder throats at between 0.311 and 0.312 on my example, was planning to size at 0.312". What sizer diameter are you using? Thanks.

in the throats to .314" back when cylindersmith was doing that work. I tend towards .313-.315" with .314" being the most used. That size also seems to work well in the .32's I did not have reamed. Hope this helps.

I size most to .313" but have used .314. A couple of mine have the throats opened up. Depending on the revolver and bullet. A.314 will chamber even in the ones with a .312" throat. They shoot fine so I don't worry about it.

I wouldn't size below 312" and .313 is probably a perfect all around when's you ave numberous .32s .
