Any experience with the SIG 556xi carbine?
I'm a big fan of the AK platform. This looks like it has some very practical updates plus you can swap out to 5.56 or 300AAC. Street price is around $1500-1600 and lowers are about $400. Caliber change kits are about $600. Curious about the triggers and how good they are.
I've never owned a SIG carbine or rifle but they make some interesting firearms. The P220, P226, etc are fantastic.
Any experience with the SIG 556xi carbine?
Several years ago I was able to buy four 556 Classics for issue as patrol carbines. I was the chief FTO at the outfit ad saw then run with anything and everything I could buy cheap in bulk, including Tula. They were superb rifles and not one suffered a fail-to-feed or fail-to-eject in four years. They are roughly 2MOA guns with anything you throw at them, maybe half that with stuff they like. Ours really liked Independence 55 or any 62 grain.
The bolt its a direct knock-off of the AK and the piston system is adjustable and if anything, an improvement on it. Trigger is two stage and adjustable tp some degree. Due to the application, I never messed with them. It was plenty shootable as-is. I have no experience with the XI other than nearly dropping the shekels for one in 7.63x39. Found a WASR to build instead, been real happy with that.
Thx for the good info...
the SIG 556s are really interesting. The xi is just an improvement on that...full ambi controls including charging handle...folding stock with adjustable cheek piece...caliber conversions for 5.56, 300AAC or 7.62x39 which can be done in the field without special tools...standard AR or AK mags vs the previous expensive mags...upgraded modular forends, etc.
I'm interested.
some bad reviews out there like this one....
Makes me glad I went the the AK platform...
to build on. I've got about half the price of a 556R Classic (assuming you can find one) in this one and it shoots as well--often better with Tula--than the XI's he was testing. And it just runs and runs, any ammo/any magazine.
FWIW I trust that guy's reviews.
That's good to hear. I wasn't familiar with his reviews. NT
