You prompted me on this idea with your recent build. I built up a .300 blk AR with a 16" barrel and an adjustable gas block, with the idea that I could shut the gas off and use the side charging upper like a straight pull bolt action. Finally got it all together today, hopefully I'll get to test it out soon!

It's built on a group buy lower from a local gun board, logo on the side...

Looks good, you are planning on suppressing it right? Turning the gas system off and running it like a single shot should really drop the db's when suppressed. And with the side charger jacking a new round in should be quick.
Tell me about the lower, local company? How's the quality? Any gaps between the upper and lower? My side charger upper fit good on the Noveseke lower but the Anderson has a slight gap above the rear take down pin.

Yep, suppressed most of the time, used as a straight pull bolt action, again, most of the time.
The lower is made in Northern IN, some guys from Indiana Gun Owners (INGO) had a run of 100 with the sites logo made up. I've been on there for a long time and figured I might as well get one. The upper mates up quite well with it. A slight, but even gap all the way around. The upper blends in nicely with the cuts and curves of the lower. The only 'issue' is that the rear piece of the side charger has scraped a slight amount of anodizing off of the lower. If it bugs me, which I doubt it will, I'll probably take a needle file and deepens the gouge and hit it with some aluma-black.
