wow nice package.

Dumb question.....

by Otony, Wednesday, March 23, 2016, 20:08 (3155 days ago) @ Bryan Pettet

.....but I honestly want to know. Is there something different about those cases? I too, think those are pretty cool, nice packaging, but just got to wondering if there was something internally that made them more suitable for wadcutter usage. Or is that empty wadcutter ammo?

Nice stuff, Maynard!

That's a great question...

by Bryan Pettet @, Wednesday, March 23, 2016, 21:13 (3155 days ago) @ Otony

the answer is there is a difference.

Per Ed Harris (well known bullet caster), "Wad-cutter brass has thinner walls with a long cylindrical section which extends all the way to the seated base of the wadcutter bullet, whereas +P and other cases made for JHP service loads are thicker walled and have a faster internal taper intended to increase bullet pull to improve ballistic uniformity with the slower powders used for factory loading jacketed service loads."

It's definitely different than +P brass. Here's what it looks like...

You said you got S&W 62s...

by Bryan Pettet @, Wednesday, March 23, 2016, 21:19 (3155 days ago) @ uncowboy

did you mean 52s? I've always wanted one. You really have to follow-through with them. Pretty interesting.

Oh, and it's empty WC brass. I want them for WC loads. NT

That's a great question...

IIRC, the cannelure around the case results in a ridge on the inside upon which the base of the waddcutter bears when loaded properly, making for one more difference.

That's a great question...

by Otony, Thursday, March 24, 2016, 09:38 (3154 days ago) @ Paul

That is what I figuredd, but I wanted to be sure.

Funny, I tried to use en+visioned and was informed that that was a forbidden word.

75,000 wadcutters in a model 27....

Here's a great article, which partially addresses why wadcutter brass is different. It's just a cool article in general.

Are the WC cases marked specially?

Would you know if .32SWL also has a WC case? Might explain why I had so danged much trouble loading them...

You can see the diff in the WC case photo I posted...

I would have to look up the answer to the 32 question. I've never seen any.

OK, the twin cannelures and packaging.

But no headstamp I assume.

Well, they recommend staying within the same...

headstamp to eliminate variables. In my case, R-P.
