Pics of finished Damascus knives.......
Took half of the day to grind down the handle scales to size, sand and polish up but I think they turned out decent. Not sure if I should re-do the tang top/bottom in acid to bring out the Damascus lines or leave polished.
First up is the big one, 3.5" blade, 8.125" oal with Desert Ironwood Burl handles....
Is a bummer when you are sanding and find defects in the wood that didn't show in the scales before hand but that's mother nature for you and the risk of using wood.
Second one is a little smaller at 2.75" blade and 7.125" oal with Desert Ironwood handles.....
Here are the metal specs on the knife blanks I started with.....
3 Layers 52100
4 Layers 5160
3 Layers 203E
3 Layers 15n20
Folded = 5 times
Total Layers = 416

Very nice. It's always interesting to hear the labor and toil that go into hand-crafted products. Thanks for sharing.
Is the 2nd one available?

Good lookin' blades Gunner!
I have always loved Damascus.
Have you tried filling those voids with an epoxy resin?
Stained to match...

Of the Troops & For the Troops
some people use epoxy, some people use CA
I'm not sure it is necessary to add color to it.
Not yet.......
Since I only use rouge on a polishing wheel for the Desert Ironwood I can't mixed stain/glue/epoxy to fill in the pours. But I do have some thin viscosity CA glue that I am going use to seal the pours and rebuff the handle scales. At least that way the pours will not grow though Ironwood is very stable, just a little insurance. Not sure how it will turn out, might end up with little shiny spots on the scales, maybe some light sanding after the CA dries before rebuffing might do the trick.
