Need info on a top lever action smith..........
I have a .45/70 Marlin Cowboy with a 26" octagonal barrel. While a wonderful rifle...it is a bit long....if you know what I mean.....
I am considering having the barrel cut to 18"...maybe sacrilgious....maybe not...
Does anyone personally know a TOP lever action smith that can make this simple job go perfectly?
Thank you in advance,
Byon
Personally, no but either David Clay or Mic McPherson can do
it. I imagine that Steve Young of Steve's Gunz (http://www.stevesgunz.com) can as well. I know that all three do good work.

Re-blue.
This was the McPherson gun that Fermin Garza coordinated the conversion and auctioned off. The stock was recontoured/refinished by Fermin's brother Henry.
Micpherson is top notch on Marlins.....

There's a new smith that goes by the UserID of 'Mr Smith' on the M4carbine.net forum that has posted some interesting treatments of some lever guns. His work might tickle your fancy.
