Not a Weaver 7/8" mount and not a 3/8" rimfire...

so, what is it? I bought a Bausch & Lomb one-piece mount for a Model of 1917 sporter (actually, 3 of them, but that's another story). I paid the 'smith to mount it to the rifle. All of this was under the assumption it was a standard Weaver type 7/8" dovetail mount. The rings will not tighten down far enough to grab. Measurement across the wide part of the mount shows ~.740". Metric? Maybe 18-19mm....

What other systems were tried before the Weaver became standard? Can I still find rings?

Sheesh....the things I get myself into.

I'll consult my optics guru. NT

These mounts are NOS in older packaging. I feel silly for running with the assumption they were Weaver dimensions.

It was suggested they 'might' be made to Tikka dimensions but I can only find one drawing which suggests those would be 18-22mm (clamp range).

This is a rifle for my S-I-L who is a relative novice hunter/shooter. The intent was to mount an entry level scope and rings and be done with it. The project is experiencing serious scope creep (no pun intended).

Not a Weaver 7/8" mount and not a 3/8" rimfire...

Can't seem to find anything about it now, but seem to remember having a clamp on scope mount for a K31 that had a metric dovetail, and Warne made the proper rings to fit it.

Thanks Josh!

Warne was one that I found for Tikka as was suggested elsewhere.

Question answered.

A bit of research and a couple of e-mails later, I find out it's a B&L Trophy base which takes B&L Trophy rings and no others. Haven't connected with any of the rings yet but at least I know what we're looking for...

Edited because I lost my brain and typed "Redfield" instead of B&L
