S&W SW40E jamming problem solved
Hello Guys
A few weeks ago I posted about this Sigma style S&W jamming by the cartridge taking a nose dive several times each mag. Two new Wolff magazine springs fixed it. I've ran a hundred rounds through both mags and the jamming has ceased. Too simple for sure.
I have a similar problem with a Star BM only if it chambers from racking the slide it will fire every time. If I load 8 in the Star BM mag and rack the slide the first cartridge takes a nosedive under the feed ramp. This jam requires removing the magazine. The Sigma stoppage only required me to pull the slide back and let it slam the cartridge into the chamber.
If I load 7 in the Star magazine the first round chambers OK and all will feed. This is with ball ammo of course. Load 8 and the first one nose dives. I thought maybe the mag springs are in back asswards but they weren't. The BM really shoots sweet but Wolff doesn't make magazine springs. I wonder if 1911 9mm Commander mag spring could be fashioned to work?

I would try the spring meant for the.....
.....Springfield Armory EMP. It is very similar to the Star, size-wise, and also holds 8 rounds.

Bob, I thought I read that the Commander springs were the...
choice. I had one of the Stars but gave it to a son. While sorting out some feeding problems, I'm pretty sure I bought some mag springs. I'll go look in a bit and, assuming it's not all a hallucination, I'd be happy to send it/them in your direction.
AHA!
Found 'em. They weren't as well hidden as some things.
Bob, please drop me a note by clicking on the little envelope next to my name.
Star BM mag springs
Bob, the springs for a 9mm 1911 mag will work quite well in the Star BM magazines. I have replaced the springs in several mags for my three BM pistols and they work great. The Colt springs are a bit stouter than the originals, so I usually load seven rounds rather than eight, but I do the same with the original Star mags as well to save the original springs. My BMs do duty as house, garage, truck and tractor, and general grab-and-go guns, so the mags stay loaded most of the time.
I have been told that the stronger Colt springs will cause the feed lips to deform or crack, but I have not seen that. One Starvel mag I have has stayed loaded continuously for about four years, with no apparent damage.
