Wolves...

My brother and I are headed to the western UP of MI next week to
Chase grouse and woodcock. We will have our bird dogs with us and the word is that there are areas that are lousy with Wolves up there. I'm thinking that my Glock 19 would be a good companion to the old Ithaca 37 16 ga. I'm kind of thinking that I'm better off with more bullets than more power in this case? I can shooting pretty well and quick, as opposed to my ,45 Blackhawk that I haven't practiced with much lately. I do have some Safariland clip on two she'll holders if I take a 12 ga; figured they'd be good to keep with OO Buck in case the wolves decide to try and eat an English setter. Any opinions or suggestions on the subject?

I don't know about being lousy with them, but they are there.

A hi-cap nine (in my case as G17) would be my first choice for running off pests as well.

Josh (not in da UP) M.

They are 110/120 lb dogs.

I'd think you have it covered.

In an extremity, don't hesitate to cut loose with the 16 gauge if the range is close, even with small shot. Some years ago my father used his A. H. Fox 16 gauge double to put down an 80+ pound bulldog that was trying to take his leg off in his own driveway. Almost muzzle-contact distance, but the load of #6 shot did just fine.

Likely saved his life. He was in his 80s at the time and none too steady on his feet. If the dog had got him down it would have mauled him severely

good job ! and an AH Fox is a classy choice !

BTW, hate 'dog abusers', but will not hesitate to protect the Chessies and us, when strolling the wooded sward..... While i don't do 'warning shots' with Da Peeples. if a dog appears to be merely curious, or near his buildings and does not close the distance, I'm prepared for it -- but will bot shoot, unless compelled.

And , yes...a big Chessie male or one of the ferocious bitches CAN tear it up...but not on my time, and responsibility. As for dog fighters, who steal dogs, may they roast alive in Hell for Eternity, while Daemons tear their flesh. Fuck Forgiveness.

agreed. i have always been a dog lover, but would

In this case, the dog's owner showed up a while later, looking for it. Seems that just that morning he had had to bail the dog out of the county pound after it attacked another neighbor. As soon as he let it out of the car it took off looking for more victims, and tried to get into my folks' house after my Mom.

They couldn't do tests because most of the dog's brain was in a large splotch on Dad's driveway, but it did not show any signs of being rabid, just mean. Dad gave the guy a feed sack to take his dog home in, and that's the last they saw or heard of it.

Blue pit bull tried me in my old shop. Likely a dumped

fighting dog, it got in my shop because the door was open. When I yelled at it to get out, it pinned its ears back and rushed. Took ten rounds of 22lr from a Ruger 22/45 in the forehead before it fell. It was still pressing the attack the first few rounds.

The 22 was handy & right there on the bench; would've really preferred a 9mm or 45. I did appreciate the can inside the shop.

Considering the Ruger, good thing he didn't need 11!
