Brass blues!

My love of older Savage 99s has gotten me in trouble! Try finding brass for a .250 Savage. Not happening. I know I can use .22-250 brass or 6.5 Creedmoor but you would think with thousands of rifles around, someone would make it, even if a seasonal run. .300 Savage is almost as bad, though if you're willing to pay the price, Hornady is making it. .35 Remington is another that simply cannot be found, and is not easily made from anything else.

is also based on the Savage case. Huntingtons has some Lapua 6.5x47 cases and also some Norma 6.5 Creedmore cases; neither are exactly inexpensive.

Shoot all of those calibers, did not know they were in any serious decline in availability. Of course, have not looked for any factory stuff for a while, have enough old factory ammunition, brass and components to last many years yet. Hopefully they will get this sorted out before I need any more, they are great rounds.

I thought I had enough until I started loading for my oldest son's .250 the other day. Down to about 40 pieces of brass for the .250. A friend of mine picked up a .35 a few weeks ago. I was going to sell him some brass until I started looking for replacement material. Apparently, Remington has even stopped selling the .35 200 grain corelokt bullet as a component.

That Remington 200gr Rn was a hammer on deer and hogs. I really wish o would have bought more before they went way up in price. I honestly think Remington wants out of the reloading component business. In the last 5 years or so they are pricing their product way above that of their competitors.

You can make .35 brass from .308 but it is an involved process. There is a thread on the cast bullet forum about forming it because of how hard ammo is to find.

are the problem, at Remington and most/all of the big ammo companies. They want maximum profit and could care less about customers needs or wants. 9mm and .223 are in such demand that all the materials and production capacity is devoted to those and a few other high-demand cartridges. If you have one of the good old hunting cartridge firearms or some other arcane shooter you are pretty much SOL unless you have stockpiled brass and bullets from back when they were available.

The last box of 6.5x50 Japanese brass I saw was priced at $35, and the box looked like it dated from sometime in the 1950s. I doubt that stuff like that will ever become plentiful again. Allegedly PPU makes loaded ammo, but I have never seen any.

Try finding .257 Roberts ammo or brass. Similar situation, out there but priced like gold.

....ah....so many just-kickass models of 36 & 336 in 'so called old' calibers. .35 in a classic Marlin rifle or one of the nifty carbines just hits my X-ring
