Good days are those when you run across this kind of wood at a good price....

Bad days are when you snap off the end of a finished knife....

Good and Bad days.......

Can you regrind the blade? Seems like there is still plenty of meat left to make a useful knife.

THAT is some yummy wood!

Can't wait to see where they end up.

The busted tip, depending on why it broke, looks to have enough material to fashion a slim drop point or slightly dropped...depending... I know how I hate to get right to the end and have the plan 'not come together'. Lemonade out of lemons, I hope.

and shorten the butt a little bit

to get back the correct proportions.

The hard part about grinding it is that it has already been heat treated so you have to go slow.

Looks like the start of a good patch knife.

What the heck is that lovely wood?

Maybe.......

The finished reground blade would be about 2-2 1/2 inches and the blade gives me pause about regrinding it since it snapped so easily in the first place. At this point I committed to hanging on my F up wall and let it be a lesson in incorrect heat treating.

Wood.......

The slabs are Desert Ironwood, my favorite wood for knife handles. I was a little surprised at the low cost for such nice figure in the wood.

I figured that. One of the most attractive woods for knife and gun handles. Beautiful stuff.

That is some VERY nice wood!!
