Fortunately the only one killed was the shooter. The metro cops did an excellent job. I suspect it may have been suicide by cop. He attacked someone with a hatchet then shot at a cop. SWAT took it from there. Minor wound to the victim thank goodness. Now they will have to post for hatchet free zones I guess.

Turns out the gun was airsoft... Guess the joke was on him

Callous I know but the cops did what they should under the circumstances and the hatchet was certainly real.

I don't often go to movie theaters, and have not been to one unarmed since about 1988. According to news reports, there were only eight people in the theater at the time. Should have been virtually a free fire zone if any of the patrons had been properly armed and trained. Sadly, apparently no one was and they had to wait for the cops to get there. Fortunately, NPD has trained extensively for such as this and they wasted no time in dealing with the cretin.

Probably posted - from some legislature comments there

May be a change on that! I rarely visit them any more. If I do oops - I forgot to take out my pistol - aka don't ask don't tell.

Seen several put up "no firearms allowed" signs once again

by StoneWolf, Thursday, August 06, 2015, 09:43 (3337 days ago) @ stonewalrus

That only applies to the law abiding citizens. A movie theatre is a place where if someone is going to shoot it up its premeditated not a spur of the moment kind of thing.

not some weasel words painted on a sign.

They tried to put into the law what officially posting means

Size of sign, etc. They can put up a sheet of paper with a crude drawing and get by with it. Local news says some of legislators are talking about freeing up carry after this incident. Of course the local rag is crying for more gun control.

Ignore those damn signs

Unless I'm going to get wanded I typically do ignore them. If they are checking people at the entrance, I seriously consider whether or not I really need to go in there.

At the Alan Jackson concert during the NRA convention, they were wanding people at the door of the "Bridgestone Arena". I have been in that place any number of times before and they had never done that before. I very openly accused the $#!+head security honcho of doing it only because most of the concertgoers were NRA members. He wouldn't disagree with me, but kept saying that they had been instructed to wand everybody and that no weapons were allowed inside, not even a Leatherman tool.

I finally just walked through the checkpoint and the minion with the wand waved it in my direction from about three feet away. I didn't stop, the wand didn't buzz, nobody said anything, and I didn't look back.

I wasn't carrying anything that would have set the wand off anyway, but it was good for a chuckle.:-D

was in a store with signs....

by Ray L., Thursday, August 06, 2015, 16:14 (3337 days ago) @ Rob Leahy

in the wee hours to pick up something automotive or maybe lawn and garden when cell phone rang.... the security folks upstairs must have seen me put the phone away and assumed i had pocketed merchandise....

long story short, the manager met me at door and asked me to accompany him to his office where i was asked to empty my pockets..... "here hold my hat and hold it good with both hands" was what i said...... the look on his face was priceless as they say as i placed in the hat wallet, keys, flashlight, folding knife, cell phone then one n.a.a. mini five-gun followed by it's twin followed by a keltec .32 followed by a taurus .32 mag. six-gun ..... no purloined merchandise of course.....

i got a nervous, mumbled semi-apology and the beginnings of a reminder/censure of the door signs when there was a light rapping at the door and a deputy came in with cuffs in hand...... the manager explained false alarm and pointed to my hat on desk....deputy asked if i had a c.c.w. permit and after i answered the affirmative, i was let go and escorted out awkwardly carrying my heavy hat in front of me..... when the manger wished us a good morning and walked out of earshot, the deputy said: "cannot stand that g----r smoocher !" but using a lewder, more commonly used expression......

I set off the alrm leacving a Lowes in AK

The cashier headed my way asking me to stop, and moved as if to grab me... I stiff armed him away, and told him alarm system sucked...he better call the troopers RIGHT NOW. He mumbled and apology and walked away. I will NEVER submit to a store manager or security guard. I will insist they call the police & wait, on my own terms, for the officer.

yours is probably......

by Ray L., Thursday, August 06, 2015, 17:52 (3337 days ago) @ Rob Leahy

the correct plan ......it could have turned ugly for me if the store manager had falsely accused me of any threats, brandishing, menacing, etc......but oh the look of surprise on his face and the profound change in his demeanor is a memory i will always cherish....the sight of not just one but four handguns really let the hot air out of him and his complexion took on that grey/green pallor of tequila-sangria mix hangover.....he perked back up at the sight of the deputy but was confounded again when i wasn't arrested......deputy did not think it odd at all to be carrying 4 concealed handguns......we joked about the logic of 4 pockets = 4 guns.....

Cool copper!

Metro cops did a very rapid response, and an excellent job of containing the subject, but they wound up expending over 100 rounds to take him down. Bet the theater will need a bit of redecorating!

Literally overkill - suspect that was 4 guys emptying their

Guns. Won't fault them under the circumstances stoked on adrenaline. Luck was with them - the first two cops to arrive were working an accident scene nearby.
