Apparently I haven't been paying attention.
How long has Smith been doing this?

Next question is why? I know it's not a magnum but that's
Still a lot of gun to be airweight.
I don't believe they are...
It was probably a limited production run as I do not see it listed on their website.
Apparently I haven't been paying attention.
THAT .44 SPECIAL GOES BACK ABOUT 25 YEARS OR SO. SAME TIME FRAME AS THE 396 AND 696.
I haven't seen one of those in a few years.
I understand they were a ripsnortin', red headed, hemroidal, fire breathing, bucking longhorn bull to shoot. I nearly ordered one when they came out. Numerous times since, I wish I had.
296.
They came out around 10 years ago, I guess, and were met with a huge yawn. CDNN quickly bought up all the leavings, and was selling them for $350. I bought 4, and they went quick. I should have bought 20.

I thought Charter Arms 44 Bulldogs were bad enough...

296.
I would like to see that is 45 colt!
If one does not try to magnamize them a Bulldog is a good
fun to shoot accurate carry gun... I just found an original set of the wood stocks for this four inch Target bull Dog. I gifted the Brand new made "retro" Bulldog to my shop manager. Travis Roundtree manger at Simply Rugged Holsters LLC. USMC combat vet, tough Okabilly and all around good man.

Of the Troops & For the Troops
I was thinking it was about that timeframe
They were so incredibly ugly, that probably limited their appeal. The 396 is much more interesting looking, although I do understand the usefulness of the shrouded hammer.
I have a couple of those laying around.
Just found a Bridgeport built over the weekend. 1973-74ish
I have only fired one and maybe it was the gun or load
But it seemed like it was spitting fire - not the usual muzzle blast I was expecting, more like spit and flash. Of course I shot it alongside a Taurus 44 special - totally different guns.
Thank you Sir.
I knew about the 696 and 396 but completely missed this version.
"why?" Uhhhh......well, a few things come to mind.
.44 Special
S&W
L-frame
Airlite
I look at it like a 'top shelf Charter Bulldog' and there ain't no files on a Bulldog.
As long as it isn't a high dollar bullet puller...
