...I had read some news accounts of the SC event.
Anybody tries something at Carlisle Missionary Baptist Church, they'll find themselves in a crossfire - me at the front of the church, and Jeff in the back.

I agree. Churches can be targets. Makes me think I should be packing bigger on more occasions. An LCP in a dire situation is a bit on the small side.
Here's how Texas learned not to ban CHL carry in church.
They changed the law because of this.
Guns in the house of worship:
"... he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one."
So if you see a naked man with a sword, he's just following the word of God. 
& it is our solom duty to arrange the meeting for him

Here's how Texas learned not to ban CHL carry in church.
Texas has not changed the law. Texas Penal Code, Section 46.035 (6) make it unlawful for a CHL license holder to carry in a church, snynagog or place of worship. This is still the law in Texas.
